The main home was built in 1840 and took nearly 10 years to finish! Equipped with a sawmill and brick kiln, all the nails, brick and timber used to build the home were produced on the farm. The farm was home to cows, pigs, chickens and mules, which were used to plow the gardens. Beautiful orchards & gardens were scattered throughout the property, as well as large strawberry fields!
George C. Harrup, (known as Poppi to his grandchildren) and his wife, Adelaide K. Harrup (known as Mema to her grandchildren) inherited this farm in 1966 from a very close family friend. Together they had 3 beautiful daughters, Bonnie, Kathy & Georgia. The family lived happily on the farm, raising chickens, pigs and cows and spending afternoons farming and fishing! Poppi was loyal to the land, often spending his time doing whatever it took to maintain the property. You could always find him on a tractor or bulldozer with a pipe in hand! Mema was dedicated & faithful to her numerous gardens & green house, especially the "Bible Herb Garden" which is located directly behind the main home. She enjoyed knitting scarves, hats & stuffed animals for the entire family! Mema and Poppi have since passed and left the farm to their 3 daughters. They are tremendously missed and not a day goes by that we don't think of them!
Georgia and her husband, Dana, currently reside on the farm and work hard to maintain the acreage and the cattle. If coming for a visit, Dana and Georgia will be your main point of contact. Bonnie & Kathy come home often to enjoy every minute of the tranquil setting, often reminiscing on the time spent growing up on the farm!
